Registration for Tazewell County participants

The Registration site for Reading First has a registration area open now for all Tazewell County participants for the event at SVCC in Richlands July 24-27.

Formal registration on this site insures that you are in the state's record of teachers who have completed Teacher Reading Academies, so it is important and necessary. When you get to the site, the first step in registration is to click the word "register," which appears in blue in the sentence at the top of the page just under the button bar.

Those of you who are not able to get registered will need to complete registration on the first day of the Academy during breaks or lunch, or after the last session. If you can get your registration done on the Reading First site before Monday, you will save your lunch and break time on the 24th!. Call me or the help number on the site if you are trying to register and can't get your registration to go through.

See you all on the 24th!

Participants at the Academies, remember to bring these materials with you:

  • Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade Academy participants need to bring the Teacher Edition of their Reading Program.

  • Third Grade Academy participants need to bring the Teacher Edition of their Reading Program and also bring either a Teacher Edition Social Studies or a Teacher Edition Science book as well.

I am looking forward to seeing you soon!

So much to do, so little time!

Our Reading First Teacher Reading Academies will take place at Emory & Henry this summer Monday July 31st through Thursday August 3rd.

At the 2006 Emory & Henry event, we will be doing much the same things we did last year, so take a glance back through earlier posts for information. A few little things will change, but our classes will be in the same building and using the same rooms except for the smallest one we used last year. It was a bit too small for our group, so we found another room on the second floor to use instead. We will be eating lunch in the EHC cafeteria again, and enjoying refreshments in the lobby of MS Hall at break times.

Remember that the Highlands Festival is going to be taking place at the same time as our EHC event, so if you want to spend the night(s), be looking at motels and B&B in the area. As time draws closer, we will have more specific information for you.

I am keeping a waiting list at the office (276-944-6218) for those who are going to the registration page and finding the sections closed. Call me if you want to be on the waiting list!

In addition to meeting the great people in Lee County at the Academies in Rose Hill, the EHC group got to stay at the Olde Mill Inn bed and breakfast! We also enjoyed eating at Tazewell's Old Town Grill and at Cumberland Gap's Webb's Country Kitchen.

We had a great time in Rose Hill! Thank you to the principal of Rose Hill Elementary, Lynn Metcalfe, for her hospitality and help in making the Lee County Teacher Reading Academies a success. You will see indications in the photographs of the wonderful classrooms we were permitted to use and the refreshments that we enjoyed. Lynn is present in a few of the photographs, and if I remember correctly, she is in the first grade group photo. A large part of the credit for a successful event goes to her for her support and cheerful participation at every turn, and to her staff and faculty.

Not all of the photographs are tagged for grade level, but this is a work in progress. If you see that your photograph is missing a tag, leave a comment or send e-mail!
